ABOUT US

The REACH Fund of Connecticut (Reproductive Equity, Access & CHoice) was founded in 2021 by a group of individuals who believe that healthcare is a human right and abortion is an essential part of healthcare. We are an all-volunteer organization made up of people throughout the state (and beyond!) who work tirelessly to maintain and improve abortion access in Connecticut.

Through our own experiences as abortion patients, abortion providers, and abortion advocates, we know that financial barriers are a serious roadblock to abortion access. Local abortion funds are an important part of increasing access to abortion care and promoting reproductive equity, and we are honored to do this important work.

The REACH Fund of Connecticut is a member of the
National Network of Abortion Funds.

MISSION

The mission of The REACH Fund of Connecticut is to reduce financial barriers to abortion care in Connecticut by providing financial assistance to those who receive care here.

VISION

The vision of The REACH Fund of Connecticut is a world in which access to abortion is free from financial and logistical barriers, stigma, and injustice.

We dream of a world where a person’s ability to direct their own life path is not determined by their identities and circumstances, but by their own autonomy and ambitions.

OUR VALUES

Compassion

We believe in honoring the humanity of those who have abortions, and we work to eliminate stigma and judgement surrounding this critical aspect of healthcare by talking openly about abortion and holding space for abortion patients and any/all feelings they have about their abortion.

Equity

We recognize that folks with historically marginalized identities have a disproportionately more difficult time accessing abortion care. We believe in promoting equity by allocating resources to those who need them the most.

Inclusivity

We believe access to reproductive healthcare benefits everyone, regardless of age, sexuality, gender, race, disability, immigration status, and other identities. We will provide assistance to anyone who requires it in a way that is welcoming and respectful.

Autonomy

We believe that every individual has the absolute right to decide for themselves if, when, and how to create a family. We recognize that those who have abortions are the experts on their own lives and circumstances, and we trust them to know what they need.

Intersectionality

We recognize that complicated and systemic forms of oppression greatly affect those with an overlap of different identities. We commit to centering, uplifting, and shifting resources toward those whose identities and circumstances are among the most marginalized in our society in order to build collective power.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

The REACH Fund of Connecticut recognizes and acknowledges the ways in which decades of systemic racism and white supremacy have and continue to perpetuate harm and violence towards Black folks, Indigenous folks, and communities of color.

We are committed to addressing the ways in which racism, economic insecurity, and immigration status multiply the massive barriers to abortion care — and will work to center and follow the leadership of communities that are disproportionately impacted by reproductive oppression towards solutions that transform abortion access alongside true racial, economic, and immigrant justice.

The REACH Fund of Connecticut knows that cisgender women are not the only people who have abortions. Transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming, intersex, and queer folks experience pregnancy, have abortions, face additional obstacles and harm when seeking reproductive healthcare, and are overwhelmingly left out of conversations regarding abortion access and reproductive rights.

We commit to ensuring that all language used on this website and in REACH materials is inclusive and gender-neutral, and we wholeheartedly support everyone who needs abortion care, regardless of their gender identity and/or sexual orientation.
